Hammertons Ferry, the passenger and cycle ferry service across the River Thames, which stopped running on March 23, will be back in action on Monday (8 June) it was announced today.
The ferry links the North bank at Marble Hill House with the South bank near Ham House and would have been packed during the recent spell of sunny weather.
The resumed service will operate within 2 metre social distance guidelines with a capacity reduced from 12 to 6 passengers. No queuing will be allowed on the pontoon and passengers will have to wait for their boarding on the nearby towpath.
Prices for the short crossing will be the same: £1 for adults, 50p for children, £1 for cyclists and payment can be made by card for the first time.
Joint owner, Andrew Spencer told Teddington Nub News:"We are just delighted to be back on the water. We will be adhering fully to the strict guidelines and we really look forward to seeing some familiar faces as well as, hopefully, a lot of new ones."
Hammertons Ferry, which first began operating in 1908, is the last remaining privately-owned foot ferry on the tidal Thames.
Stan Rust owned the ferry for 14 years before selling to current owners Mr & Mrs Francis Spencer in July, 2003.
The whole family are currently involved in all aspects of the business, however the daily running of the Ferry is by father and son, Francis and Andrew Spencer.
