Earlier this week we told you about the recovery of stolen bikes from Teddington School.
Well we now have this full statement from the police.
They said:
Between 16th and 24th November 2020, three bicycles were stolen from Teddington School.
In response, the Richmond Schools and Youth Engagement Team conducted plain clothes operations in an attempt to identify offender(s) in the act. Whilst no bike thieves were identified through plain clothes patrols, the team did make two cannabis seizures as a result of some stop and searches. These resulted in a Penalty Notice for Disorder (£90 fine) and a voluntary attendance interview.
The team also worked to find and return a stolen bicycle. On 24th November 2020, a bicycle belonging to a 15 year old boy was stolen from Teddington school and was later seen to be advertised for sale on a social media site. Through some investigative work, the team traced the seller and found the bike in a garage in another London Borough. On the 26th November 2020 the bike was seized and returned to the victim.
No arrests have been made.
PC Paul Roberts from the Richmond Schools and Youth Engagement Team said "Bicycles can be expensive and are some people's primary mode of transport. We therefore understand how frustrating and upsetting it can be to find your bicycle stolen. That is why we are working to prevent further children from falling victim of bicycle theft in Teddington. We are doing this by conducting proactive patrols and educating the children about bicycle security.
With Christmas approaching, bicycles may be bought as presents. We highly encourage that as part of this present, a substantial lock such a 'D' lock with cable lock and a bike security marking kit is given with it. Please also make a note of the frame number, and keep the receipt or proof of ownership safe. You should also register the bike on sites such as Bike Register and immobilise.com as this can help police identify a stolen bicycle and return it to the owner."
