Ben J. Harris is from Teddington - but he's gone a long way home from his South West London home.

In 2004 he was caught up in the Boxing Day Tsunami.

His journey home was far from easy - taking him through 11 countries in 8 months with no GPS, mobile phone or back up plan!

From China to Afghanistan the whole journey is detailed in Ben's brand new book - 'The Detour: Turning the Tide'.

Here is some more about the author himself:

"Ben was born in South West London ,England. He would say 'in to a middle class family with working class values.'

"He made it clear from an early age he was not going to University or in to a traditional profession but wanted to get on with life as soon as possible.

"He was diagnosed with Dyslexia , permanently bored at school, and often suspended for weeks at a time.

"He left at 16 yrs hoping to be a stuntman but after some research decided it wasn't for him and took the next option to become a diver.

"This career has taken him all over the world and his epic

2005 journey reinforced for him that happiness and contentment came from exploring new places and living free.

"When not volunteering for Sea Shepherd Conservation Society or Parley for the Oceans in the fight to save our oceans, Ben runs and operates his own company The Other Panama.

"He lives on a small island off the Pacific coast of Panama."
