From brighter, safer streets to "ambitious" plans for events and public spaces, a suite of visible changes are underway across Richmond town centre as the Council accelerates its long-term vision for the area.

Councillor Katie Mansfield, lead member for Richmond town centre, said: "Richmond's town centre is one of London's most iconic destinations, attracting people from across the UK and around the world to live, work and visit.

"It offers something truly special – a blend of history, vibrant streets, riverside and green spaces, alongside a rich mix of independent and established retail and hospitality.

"Together with the community, local businesses and partners, we've set out a clear vision for the town centre – and we are now investing in and delivering it.

"From improving safety and cleanliness to creating better spaces for events and culture, this is about ensuring Richmond continues to flourish for years to come."

Old Station Passage is now fully lit, making it a safer, more welcoming route. The pathway to Old Deer Car Park has also been reopened and upgraded, with resurfacing, tree pruning, and increased CCTV improving safety and access for residents and visitors.

Across the town centre, a renewed focus on the basics is also making an "immediate difference", says the council – with deep cleaning, abandoned bike removal, and streetside repairs helping ensure roads are clean, safe and well maintained.

"And these changes are just the beginning," Cllr Mansfield added.

New signage is being installed in Hill Rise to better showcase its independent businesses, and other improvements are planned later this year.

The Council is also exploring improved wayfinding across the town centre, helping people navigate between the high street, riverside, parks and key attractions.

This series of improvements form part of a wider programme to strengthen Richmond as a welcoming and culturally vibrant destination.

"The town centre will be on full display this July with the return of Centre Stage – a major cultural festival – which last year drew thousands of visitors, boosted footfall, and supported local businesses.

Cllr Mansfield said: "Residents, visitors and businesses can look forward to a dynamic heart of the borough – and we look forward to sharing much more soon."

The Richmond Growth Plan, which was launched this week, sets out how the borough will continue to support businesses, attract investment and strengthen its position as one of London's most dynamic local economies.
