A former BBC Breakfast star from Kingston was rushed for an "unexpected" hospital stay as fans were left panicking.

The former BBC Radio star, Debbie Greenwood, has issued a statement thanking the NHS for her hospital care after an "unexpected" stay.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, 18 January, Greenwood said: "A huge thank you to the amazing team at Kingston Hospital who looked after me so well for my unexpected 6-night stay. You were so, so kind, attentive, patient and cheerful.

"The hospital is incredibly busy – especially A&E. But still – what an NHS we have! Thank you, thank you."

Responding to fan's comment to her post wishing her well, Greenwood said: "I am, thanks."

Greenwood grew up in Liverpool and is married to broadcaster Paul Coia, with whom she has two daughters.

She lives in Kingston and her home contains part of the original red leather sofa used on Breakfast Time, which the BBC gave to Greenwood as a parting gift.
