Free bike repair vouchers of up to £50 have been launched by the government today.

The scheme has been launched to tackle the obesity problem in this country - after research revealed that being overweight means you are more likely to suffer severe Covid symptoms.

An initial 50,000 vouchers have been made available - and you can find them HERE

GPs are now also being encouraged to prescribe cycling to help people overcome their weight problems.

In Teddington we are blessed with a number of great places to cycle.

Whether that's in beautiful Bushy Park or up and down the Thames there are a number of great rides you can go on.

Richmond Park also announced today that cyclists are welcome back on the weekends from Saturday.

The government's Fix Your Bike vouchers are being released in batches to help manage capacity and so that the scheme can be monitored before being rolled out more widely.

They will typically cover the bill for a standard service and the replacement of a basic component such as an inner tube or cable.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said of the scheme: "To build a healthier, more active nation, we need the right infrastructure, training and support in place to give people the confidence to travel on two wheels," he said.

"That's why now is the time to shift gears and press ahead with our biggest and boldest plans yet to boost active travel - so that everyone can feel the transformative benefits of cycling."
