Building work to repair Hampton Wick Royal Cricket Club's (HWRCC) pavilion has officially started.

The club's pavilion was destroyed by a fire back in September 2023 when six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled the flames on Park Road in Hampton Wick overnight.

Since then, HWRCC, along with other local sports clubs, have been fundraising to restore the pavilion.

In a statement released on Thursday (25 June), HWRCC's Chairman Sam Kemp said: "This is due to a huge amount of work by lots of volunteers for the club and also thanks to the support we have received from organisations like SporTedd.

"On behalf of our Committee, many thanks to all of you for the support you have provided and continue to provide to us.

"We have appointed Storm Building Ltd, a local building company based in Richmond, as our main contractor.

"If all goes well, it will be a 10-month project, so we hope to have our pavilion up and running in time for the 2027 season.

"Although we have started the rebuild, we are still in fundraising mode and continue to fight our insurers for a full settlement of our claim with the support of the Financial Ombudsman Services.
