The Chancellor Rishi Sunak has today announced how the government will protect the economy and jobs.

It comes as the existing furlough scheme comes to an end in October.

Here is what Mr Sunak has announced to help the economy and jobs in Teddington and across the country.

A new jobs support scheme will support the wages of people within work.

Employees must work at least a third of their hours and the government will support the rest.

This scheme will run for the next six months.

The self-employing grant will be extended for the next six months as well.

On bounce back loans, to give small businesses more time and flexibility Mr Sunak says he's introducing "pay as you grow", so loans can be extended from six to ten years.

Hospitality businesses will keep a 5% VAT rate rather than a standard 20% rate until the end of March.

While the chancellor was cautiously optimistic for the economy he was keen to emphasise that the next six months will not be easy.
