A series of volunteer events are to be held across the borough on Bank Holiday Monday under the banner of The Big Help Out.

The event is part of a national effort to boost community groups and bring people together as part of the celebrations around the coronation of King Charles III.

The Big Help Out is a voluntary initiative supported by some of the UK's biggest volunteer organisations, including the Scouts and the Royal Voluntary Service, as well as local groups such as Habitats & Heritage, which works on the protection of the environment across Richmond borough.

The hope is that people who volunteer as part of the campaign will continue to offer their time in the days and years to come.

There are four events in the area which will focus on clearing litter, protecting the environment and wildlife in what is the greenest borough in the capital.

Three litter clean-up events are being organised by Habitats & Heritage (Credit Habitats & Heritage)

Separately, Turner's House, which was designed and built by JMW Turner, who famously captured the remarkable view from Richmond Hill down across the meadows through to the River Thames, is looking for volunteers across a range of roles.

The Kew Neighbourhood Association is also looking for volunteers to help in its work to support people in the area. Its volunteers support residents by driving them to appointments, offering companionship, buying shopping and doing light gardening.

The Association is asking people to spread the word by picking up leaflets from The Good Wine Shop in Kew and sharing them with friends and neighbours.

Three clean-up events are being organised by Habitats & Heritage.

Volunteers are asked to bring their own work/ gardening gloves for the session, and to wear clothes and shoes for manual work as they are likely to get muddy.

Unaccompanied volunteers under the age of 18 are asked to register as a young volunteer. Details can be found here –
