With polling day for the 2024 General Election looming ever closer, Nub News is asking local candidates where they stand on key issues in Twickenham constituency.

This is the last article in the series, published throughout the week to help keep voters informed before they reach the ballot box on Thursday 4 July.

Today, Friday 28 June, we asked Teddington's candidates if they will fight against night flights from Heathrow Airport, and how they will represent the voices of local residents in Parliament.

Jonathan Hulley – Conservatives

Heathrow night flights

"I want a formal ban on night flights to and from Heathrow, and I responded to a recent Government consultation on behalf of constituents, making my position crystal clear."

Local representation in Parliament

"The next government will either be Conservative or Labour. Twickenham is best served in Parliament by a Conservative MP who will have the clout and access that smaller opposition parties don't have.

"I am also a senior legal professional, and through my Shadow MP surgeries, I have already demonstrated that I can get things done."

Alexander Starling – Reform

"I personally have no issue with flights taking place, but it is infuriating when the early/late flight rules are flagrantly breached – I will support constituents if this continues.

"Incidentally, I also do not see why heavy military helicopters need to fly low over south-west London late in the night."

Local representation in Parliament

"I'm a pretty vocal individual – I find it hard to keep quiet!

"I have found the engagement & discussion with voters to be one of the most satisfying parts of being a candidate, so combining these two things – listening to people and speaking up on their behalf – will be one of the joys of the job."

Munira Wilson – Liberal Democrats

Heathrow night flights

"In Parliament, I've called for a ban on night flights at Heathrow, and have consistently challenged Ministers and Heathrow on the health and environmental impact of night flights, which I believe have not been properly taken into account.

"I've raised my opposition to a 3rd runway, and have also challenged the Government's Airspace Modernisation plans, which have the potential to make aircraft noise much worse."

Local representation in Parliament

"There is hardly an issue I have raised in Parliament that doesn't have a constituent's story behind it.

"I promise that, if I have the honour of being re-elected as MP for Twickenham, I will continue to make sure that residents' voices are heard loud and clear in Parliament."
