Local authorities are confused about the introduction of Covid Marshals

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that Covid Marshals were to be introduced to the streets of Britain last week.

The job of these marshals would be to ensure that social distancing is maintained in towns and city centres.

So will we see Covid Marshals patrolling Teddington High Street anytime soon?

The simple answer - no.

The government is yet to even detail to local authorities just exactly who these Covid marshals would be and what their exact powers are.

Richmond Council told Nub News: "Similarly to other local authorities, following the announcement from the Prime Minister that Covid Marshals will be introduced, we are pending the guidance from the Government and indeed information about the funding that will be available for Councils to introduce them."

Other councils around the country have said that they simply cannot afford them without extra funding and will not be introducing them.

There are also concerns that the marshals will not have the powers to make them a worthwhile expense.
