Teddington MP to lead Parliamentary debate on air pollution in London
Teddington's MP Munira Wilson will lead a debate in Parliament on the issue of clean air in the capital next week.
Wilson has secured a Westminster Hall debate on the issue following her petition calling for safer air pollution limits in the UK.
She will lead the hour-long debate 'Air Pollution in London' on Tuesday 27 April at 4.40pm.
Wilson said: "The Conservative Government has continuously failed to tackle air pollution which disproportionately affects the most vulnerable in our society.
"The fact they haven't dropped plans to expand Heathrow airport shows there is little substance behind their promises to tackle the climate emergency and cut air pollution.
"The success of my petition has shown that introducing safer air pollution limits has proved popular across Twickenham.
"It's a crucial step forward to improve the health and lives of people locally as well as millions across the UK."
"The people of Twickenham should not have to put up with inadequate Tory policies that are failing to protect their health.
"This debate I will be leading in Parliament on behalf of local residents is a step forward towards a cleaner, healthier future."
The debate can be watched live on Parliament.TV.
This follows news yesterday that a coroner is calling for limits on air pollution in the UK to be brought in line with World Health Organisation recommendations.
Philip Barlow, coroner for inner South London, made the calls in a prevention of future deaths report released yesterday.
Barlow ruled last year that air pollution contributed to the death of a nine-year-old London girl, the first time poor air quality has been cited as a cause of death in the UK.
