Cricket is back on the cards as Teddington Cricket Club gets back underway this week.

The cricket season has obviously been hugely hindered by lockdown but now cricket is beginning the slow process of returning back to normality.

The Juniors were the first to return with the under fives to under tens participating in socially distanced sessions on Saturday.

Director of Cricket Abhishek Jhunjhunwala has spoken of the positive atmosphere around the club.

He said: "There have been massive changes but it's great to see the kids back training.

"Things are looking positive and we've been lucky in that we have a good number of members.

"It looks like the season will be extended into September so we will still get some matches in."

Training however looks vastly different now with the children having to train in groups of five with a coach to comply with social distancing rules.

There is a hope that if the two metre distance rule is relaxed this week then the size of these groups could be doubled and all nets could be reopened.

Currently the club can only use half of their nets.

While the juniors are back in action no date has yet been set for senior cricket to return.

Teddington Cricket Club are optimistic about a mid-July return but nothing is confirmed as yet.

There are still lots of ifs and buts about the full return of the sport but with England preparing for their test match against The West Indies next month cricket is certainly edging back closer to normality.
