Good causes can strike lucky with launch of new local community lottery
GOOD CAUSES CAN STRIKE LUCKY WITH LAUNCH OF NEW LOCAL COMMUNITY LOTTERY
An exciting and new online Lottery called Get Lucky Local will be launched in the Borough of Richmond upon Thames this Thursday (September 10th) to support numerous Good Causes which include charities, local cultural and sports projects and community groups requiring much-needed funds after the impact of the pandemic.
The big difference between Get Lucky Local and other lotteries is that you can choose the local organisations which directly benefit from playing the online game, which costs £1 a ticket.
A jackpot prize of £25.000 is available with smaller prizes of £2000, £250, £25, free tickets as well as non-cash prizes.
Get Lucky Local is formally launched today at The Exchange in Twickenham where guests include representatives of groups which hope to raise money for their Good Causes, local councillors from the Richmond Borough and the lottery operators.
Local MP Munira Wilson gave her support to the Lottery.
She said: "We are blessed with hundreds of community groups and sports clubs right across the borough which contribute so much to the quality of life in Richmond. "Many struggle to get by and the coronavirus crisis has made their need even more acute. That's why I'm delighted to support Get Lucky Local which will enable people to support these good causes and have some fun at the same time. "I am grateful to all those involved who have lent their time and expertise to establish this local lottery and wish them every success. I have no doubt that Get Lucky Local will do extremely well." Marc Leckie CEO of the Harlequins Foundation, the charitable arm of the locally-based Harlequins Rugby Club welcomed the launch of the lottery. He said: "Our local community needs more support than ever because of the impact of the pandemic and the lottery is a very imaginative way to provide that vital help especially as players can choose the actual causes they want their money to benefit." From today, any organisation or club in the Borough can sign up to apply to be one of the Good Causes with its own page on the Get Lucky Local website and encourages its own members or supporters to nominate them as the beneficiary of the lottery when they enter the draw. Out of the £1 ticket cost 50p will go to the player's nominated organisation with another 10p going into a central Fund to benefit local causes which may also require support. The remainder will be spent on prize money, operational costs and VAT. Players can choose their own six numbers or select a lucky dip. Winners will be notified by email and paid directly into their nominated bank account or they can choose to donate their winnings to the cause they have selected to support. Get Lucky Local is being run by specialist Lottery operator Gatherwell (www.gatherwell.co.uk) which runs seventy similar lotteries all over the UK which all provide significant financial support to local community projects.Tickets will go on sale for the first time on October 6th with the first draw on November 14th.
Get Lucky Local has been set up a group of local business people through a not-for-profit company called Antlergold Ltd and has been issued with a Lottery Licence by the local authority.
