The reviews are in...and critics are raving about Teddington Theatre Club's first post-lockdown show, Zoo and Seven Comic Monologues.
Hampton Hill theatre's resident performers have come back with a "first-rate evening's entertainment" after 18 long months away from the stage, according to reviewer Andrew Lawston
In his review of the show, which had its opening night on Tuesday 6 July, Lawston praised the "fantastic amount of effort" that the Club put into its production.
He also highlighted the "wonderful comic timing" and "great performances" of the cast as they brought playwright Lily Bevan's work to life.
He praised actors Helen Geldert, Heather Stockwell and Rebecca Tarry fo their readings of the titular seven comic monologues in the first half of the evening.
The section's costumes and prop departments were also complimented by Lawston, and he congratulated the directors for "making seven monologues on an empty stage feel like truly dynamic theatre."
In the second and longer half of the show, Lara Parker and Caroline Ross starred in the one act play 'Zoo' - an inventive comedy drama about courage, female friendship, and flamingos.
As zookeeper Bonnie and bat expert Carole, Parker and Ross created distinct characters and Lawton noted the duo's chemistry, stating "their friendship is convincing and real."
Meanwhile, director Josh Clarke had "pace and flair" and the sound and lighting effects team made a significant contribution in bringing the play's hurricane to life.
Lawston concluded that "this was a first-rate evening's entertainment," adding: "it felt that everyone involved with Teddington Theatre Club were absolutely raring to go after their long long break and they put a fantastic amount of effort into the production."
