OKMT MUSIC MARATHON - A NON-STOP MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA

Richmond's award winning local music therapy charity, The Otakar Kraus Music Trust is holding a Music Marathon, on 7th October 2023, to raise vital funds for OK Music School. 

Drop in for free and listen to an extraordinary variety of amateur and professional musicians. Performers include the OK Music School Band and other young musicians, RUILS Choir and Kew Community Choir, a string trio, piano solos and duets, folk musicians, a recorder ensemble, opera singers, Ukrainian traditional music & dance ensemble Dzvin, guitarists, Richmond Orchestra and more! Just come along and stay as long as you want.

Food and drink will be served throughout the day. There will be games for children plus there will be a raffle with great prizes to be won, including a Champagne afternoon tea for 4 at the Petersham Hotel and an overnight stay at Richmond Hill Hotel. The event is sponsored by Lord Lee of Trafford and will be opened by Her Worship, the Mayor of Richmond upon Thames, Cllr Suzette Nicholson, as well as former local MP and Minister Sir Vince Cable.

OK Music School was set up 10 years ago to give children and young people with additional needs the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument and perform in public concerts. 76 pupils attend OK Music School where they receive 1-1 specialised teaching from qualified music therapists and music teachers. Pupils gain confidence and self-esteem and feel proud performing in our 2 annual concerts, which bring joy to the community. They gain communication skills and make friends. 18 pupils have even passed a total of 35 music exams. All of OKMT's work is self-funded.

100% of pupils said OK Music School made them feel happy, 90% said it made them feel proud and the enjoyment they get from performing is inspirational and infectious.
