Although still early in the season, this fixture was much anticipated, with the leagues two unbeaten sides going head to head in an attempt to open up some daylight at the top of the Counties 2 Surrey table. Simon Davis reports on a big win for the Antlers.

It was Teddington who started the brighter, and it wasn't long before Lewis Carter dotted down to continue his rich try scoring form of late. 7-0 to the Antlers.

Chipstead hit back though, taking their chances well, with a converted try and a penalty to get their noses in front.

The hosts regrouped and concentrated on making Chipstead play out from deep in their half. Ultimately the Antlers setup a great attacking platform from which Carter scorched over in the right hand corner.

Bob Beevers' touchline conversion put Teddington 14-10 up, but Chipstead wouldn't lie down, and impressively recycled the ball through many phases before crashing over in reply.

The Antlers lost a man to the sin bin in the process and went into the break 14-17 down. Playing with 14 men seemed to suit the hosts as they reapplied the pressure at the beginning of the 2nd period and they were rewarded with a Harry Smith try.

Now leading again and back to a full complement of players, Teddington were looking the more likely to come out on top, however all that changed on 55 minutes when an off the ball scuffle resulted in Teddington back rower Rory Mercer being shown a red card.

Now permanently down to 14 men, it was a real test of the Antlers character, to see if they would come out of this one with the points.

Through some smart tactical kicking by Beevers, they continued to control the field position as they searched for the match winning score.

It was Teddington's versatile scrum half Jack Dickson, now deployed on the wing, who provided the knock out blow, finishing superbly in the corner. Beevers converted yet again from the touchline and the Antlers were home and dry.

This was a high tempo, physical game which Chipstead more than played their part in. The return fixture will be one to look forward to, but for now Teddington sit proudly on top of the table.

The 2nd XV travelled to Earlsfied to take on Bec Old Boys 2nd XV in the Surrey Merit tables. Following on from last weeks dramatic win over Farnham, the Antlers were looking for another big performance.

Again a slow start did them no favours, and although the team improved in the second half they couldn't claw back the points. There were two tries for Cam Gildersleve and one each for Ali Brace and skipper Jasper Gibb, but the boys will have to wait for next week to get back to winning ways.

Final Score Bec Old Boys 2nd XV 34 Teddington 2nd XV 24.

On Friday evening under the floodlights, the Teddington RFC Colts put last weeks disappointment behind them, to secure an away victory in the local derby against Twickenham Colts.

Always nice for any Teddington side to secure the local bragging rights, but there will plenty of more battles with Twickenham to come over the coming months.

Final Score Twickenham Colts 15 Teddington Colts 31.
