The return of National League One South saw the Teddington M1s back at Broom Road to kick start the season. They faced tough opponents in Canterbury who narrowly missed out a top of the league finish last year. Team captain Murray Collins reports on the match.

The Teddington outfit featured a number of fresh faces, not least in the form of a new Head Coach, Ben Edwards, who joined having previously led the Ladies 1s last season.

Young Theo Wood made his National League debut, while Michael Moran and James Hall both returned to the club having graduated from University.

It was Teddington who seized the opener in the 1st quarter through Kyle White - last season's top goal scorer doing what he does best after a well worked attack. The game remained open in the 2nd quarter with Canterbury forcing a number of short corners and Teddington replying with their own chances, but no further goals were scored in the first half.

Ben Edward's side began to take control in the second half, manufacturing several great opportunities, including another from White, this time denied by the post. It was Canterbury however who struck next in the 3rd quarter after a direct ball into the circle wasn't dealt with by the defence.

Into the last 17 and a half minutes and the home side pushed for the winner, with Canterbury remaining solid and repelling a stream of Teddington attacks. It took a moment of quality from Edward Treece to beat his player, before two rapid passes and Edward Greaves guided it coolly past the goalkeeper. The strike from the Scotsman, who competed at this summer's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, proved to be the winner.

A deserved win for the South West London team, who look to continue their winning start to the season at Southgate next weekend.
