Gary McCann thought that the difference between Hampton and Richmond and St Albans City was the gulf in quality of finishing as they lost 6-0 in National League South.

Hampton were torn to shreds on Tuesday night as St Albans ran rampant scoring six goals at the Rocket Hospitality Beveree Stadium. 

McCann said that the Saints took the chances that were presented to them and once again Hampton were not clinical enough at the sharp end of the pitch. 

Speaking to club media, he said: "We didn't take our chances, did we? It's a funny game because their manager comes up to me and goes 'you know we have had six or seven chances and scored six goals.' 

"It did feel like that, but you can count numerous chances that we have had again, with the game at two-nil at half-time, they have had three chances and we have had four or five again, but we are two down. 

"The difference in the two sides is there was a gulf in fitness and energy by the end, but that is down to circumstances, but also the top end of the pitch. 

"When you look at their three up front in [Mitchell] Weiss, [Zane] Banton, and [Shaun] Jeffers, they were the difference between the two teams. 

"Today they were ruthless, credit does need to go to the opposition because every chance they seemed to get, they took. 

"This is a tough one to take, there is no question about that, I am a bit shellshocked but we will have to take our medicine and the criticism that comes with it, but we will have to dust ourselves down and get ready for Dulwich." 

McCann also felt that the punishing schedule that the Beavers have had and the injuries they have sustained made a difficult night even tougher. 

He said: "We have had to chase and harry and we have had to try and stay in the game when there are a lot of players running on empty. 

"Players coming in today were short of match sharpness and fitness, it doesn't matter what you do on the training pitch of away from here, they were short. 

"I am not going to question their work rate or their effort or their determination to try and stay in the game, we were just short. 

"We will watch the video back on Thursday, it is a session for video analysis and recharging and getting ourselves where we need to be, because there are some tired limbs out there. 

"But games come thick and fast, we have Saturday-Tuesday staring us in the face, and we need to pick morale up. 

"The players need to be better, but they also need to have their batteries recharged."
