Gary McCann was proud of his team's performance as Hampton and Richmond won 1-0 away at Hungerford Town in National League South. 

Tommy Block converted from the penalty spot inside ten minutes and that proved to be enough for the Beavers to get their second win in six matches. 

McCann was proud of the way his team played against a Hungerford side who make the game difficult for all opposition. 

Speaking to club media after the match he said: "It was an improved performance on the last time we were here [a 3-0 defeat in January], that was one of the lowest moments in the season. 

"This is a tough, tough place to come. They get after you, they get in your face and it is a really tight pitch, you have the slope to deal with in one of the halves. It is a really difficult place to play. 

"This was one of the kinds of performances that you are especially proud of away from home, we ground it out, kept a clean sheet, and kept their chances to virtually none, which tells you how well we defended. 

"But we also carried a threat and could have had a few more if we had more of a clinical edge and if the decision making in the final third had been better then it could have been an easier last 15 minutes." 

McCann looked to change Hampton's recent fortunes with a change in system and was happy with how his team adapted to it. 

He said: "We had a look at a different shape and that it is something that we are looking at as we have some really good central defenders who can play in the wide channels. 

"We have Luis Fernandez and Dean Inman to come into the fold along with the three who played today. 

"I thought the two wing-backs were excellent today, Liam Vincent and Tommy Block, they ably assisted the front end of the pitch as much as defending the back end of the pitch. 

"It was a system that worked for us and I want to give a special mention to young Marcus [Sablier] because there was some criticism aimed at him at the weekend. 

"It would have been easy for me to take him out of the firing line today, but I wanted to see what type of character he was and I thought he was excellent tonight and had a real purpose to his game."
