Gary McCann said that Hampton and Richmond's 1-0 loss against Farnborough in the FA Trophy was a game lacking in quality from both sides.

Hampton were firmly in the contest and gave as good as they got against Farnborough until the last minute when Hisham Kasimu was left unmarked in the box and headed home the winner.

McCann said that it was a case of one side taking their chances and one failing to in a game in which neither side put in their best performance.

Speaking to club media, he said: "There were two chances in the last ten to 15 minutes, one for us at the back stick, one for them in the middle of the goal, and they took theirs and we didn't take ours.

"I can't dress it up, I have come off the pitch and one or two of the supporters have said 'you can't defend that, it was bang average', well they are 100% right, it was bang average.

"You would even be kind to say it was bang average, I thought it was a rubbish game of football, I thought both teams struggled to cope with the conditions and I don't think there was any real quality on show.

"You could argue we had the [Francis] Amartey chance, the chance for Luis [Fernandez] at the back stick in the first half and then a couple of little moments in the second half.

"Outside of their goal, which we have to do better with, they have had the one-on-one which came from out mistake.

"It was just an awful game of football, it was horrible to watch, it was horrible to be involved, and it is not one that is going to live long in the memory.

"Of course, we will learn from it, you find out about the individuals, but it was the type of game where if that game was going on in your back garden you would draw the curtains."
