Teddington venue to host match for inaugural Over 70s Cricket World Cup later this month
The Over 70s Cricket World Cup is coming Teddington this summer.
Following the success of the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA, cricket fans across England are looking forward to a cricket world cup closer to home.
The tournament will be closer still for Teddington residents, with the Australian team facing off against Canada's over 70s at Teddington Cricket Club later this month.
The match will take place on Tuesday 30 July, with free entry to all. The game may also be streamed live on the Over 70s Cricket World Cup YouTube channel.
Not only that, but number of the England squad have links to the local area, including:
- Chris Evans – Surrey
- John Hall – Surrey
- Andrew Peters – Surrey
- Mike Stafford – Middlesex
Following in the footsteps of World Cups for the Over 50s and Over 60s, the inaugural Over 70s Cricket World Cup will be held in England over two weeks and 22 venues from Sunday 28 July, culminating on 11 August in a Grand Final at the iconic Sir Paul Getty ground at Wormsley nestling in a secluded part of the Chiltern Hills.
Seven countries are taking part – Australia, Canada, England, India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Wales – which organisers say is "proof of the exponential growth of seniors cricket, not only in the established nations of England and Australia, who play regularly for the 'Silver Ashes', but now becoming established across further cricket playing nations as players who started as 50s players age into the 70s age group."
Those wishing to attend the 30 July match at Teddington Cricket Club can find the club near Bushy Park, on Dora Jordan Road, Teddington, TW11 0EP.
The tournament's full fixture list is included below.
