Teddington turn on the power
Following last week's tense encounter at Twickenham, Teddington were back in league action at Bushy Park this week with Trinity RFC the visitors.
Trinity have been familiar opponents over recent seasons, with many close games contested in the Counties 2 Surrey league; now with both clubs plying their trade at Counties 1 level it was time to renew acquaintances.
A slight reshuffle in the lineup this week, with skipper Jack MILLER now resigned to a period on the sidelines after breaking his arm last week, meant Harry SMITH was moved inside from the wing to partner Huw MORGAN, Joe STAINER came back in at full back and Jamie McCONNELL started in the back row.
There was also a place on the bench for youngster Josh McKIERNAN following several impressive 2nd team performances this season. Bob BEEVERS captained the side in the absence of MILLER.
Unfortunately for the visitors they caught the Antlers in a rich vein of form. From the kick off Teddington probed, trying to find some rhythm to their game with the final pass letting them down on a few occasions.
However, it wasn't long before the hosts clicked, with Angus BELL going over and topping up his already impressive try count this season.
This was the followed by another four Antlers trys before the break, as Teddington started to turn the screw on their opponents.
Trinity were limited to only a few visits into the hosts 22, and a converted penalty was their only reward for a tough first 40 minutes.
The second half continued in a similar manner with six more trys, with Teddington taking advantage of an understandably tiring defence.
The final try scoring tally was as follows, Angus BELL (2), Max AITKEN (2), Hal DARE (2), Dan ROBERTSHAW, Harry SMITH, George BRADFORD, Jack VALENTINE, and Joe STAINER.
The big win took Teddington to the top of the league table on points difference, with four sides level on maximum points – one of those sides, KCS Old Boys are our opponents next week.
Final Score Teddington RFC 67 Trinity RFC 3. Man of the Match Hal DARE.
The 2nd XV travelled over to Old Rutlishians on Saturday with 2 wins from 2 in their opening league fixtures.
This one was a close-run affair with the lead changing on several occasions. Old Ruts eventually ran out winners, but there were trys for Cam FISH and Ed DAVIES and a man of the match performance from Adam PRICE who did a double shift in the back row and in the centre.
Final Score Old Rutlishians 26 Teddington 18. Man of the Match Adam PRICE.
