There was a serious danger of floods in Teddington yesterday.

This included the possibility of properties being flooded.

Luckily thanks to the Thames Barrier this did not happen.

The barrier - located between Charlton and City Airport - was closed for a number of hours.

The Environment Agency said: "The Thames Barrier is closed.

"We're preventing the incoming tide meeting the high river flow coming the other way

"The meeting of the two could have flooded properties upriver of Teddington

"We'll remain closed until the tide has ebbed, and levels either side are equal."

This was at around 2pm before the barrier was once again reopened at around 6pm.

There is still a flood risk of low lying land but properties are not thought to be at risk.
