The 150-year-old Aldous Boathouse on the edge of Manor Road Recreation Ground has been sold before reaching auction, scheduled later this month.

Real estate agent Barnard Marcus had listed the property on its website as going under auction on 30 July with a guide price of £390,000.

However, a negotiator at the company's Hammersmith auction office has confirmed the Victorian boathouse was sold to a private buyer for an undisclosed sum yesterday, Monday 23 July.

While the buyer and offer are not public knowledge at this time, more information is expected in late-August.

The property was thought to be sold for £537,000 at a Savills auction earlier this month, but the would-be buyer dropped out before the sale was finalised.

The property previously went to auction late last year for the first time in 24 years according to The Standard, with a higher guide price of £450,000. The local owners, both keen rowers, had reportedly turned down an offer of £4 million in the past, before later deciding to sell after ill health prevented them from using it as a boathouse in 2021.

Built in 1874 and restored in 1999 as part of the Teddington Wharf Estate development, Aldhouse Boathouse has been sold freehold, and features the two-storey main building, an allocated parking space, and a floating pontoon to allow for mooring at all tides.

In early 2020, a Ms Wicks received planning permission to install a ramp for disabled access. While another estate agent, Savills, has publically noted a potential for future residential development on the site, no planning permission has been submitted at time of writing.

Further details regarding the boathouse are expected by late August. (Photo: Oliver Monk)
