UP CLOSE WITH: Hampton Food Bank
The latest instalment in our UP CLOSE WITH series where we profile a business or community group in the Teddington area.
This week our reporter Eleanor Veness visited Hampton Food Bank, located on Teddington's doorstep just the other side of Bushy Park, to find out more about their work and the impact of the pandemic on services.
In July 2021, services at the White House Community Centre in Hampton were officially protected for a twelve-month extension by Richmond Council post-lockdown, meaning that Hampton Foodbank services could return to the building.
The Hampton Foodbank, who have worked continuously during the pandemic, target food poverty in the area by working with local communities.
They are part of a wider network of foodbanks in Richmond borough and are unique in that they are coordinated by local charity The Vineyard and only pick, pack and deliver fresh produce.
While Richmond Council commit to securing the long-term future of what it describes to be as an 'important community facility', the current arrangement at the White House Community Centre is able to welcome back The Hampton Foodbank and other services such as the Preschool Nursery and the Patchwork and Quilting group (featured in the video).
Watch the video above to learn more about the work The Hampton Foodbank does for its community.
