THE MEN BEHIND THE MASK - the three inventors working with NPL on world's safest visor

These are the PPE pioneers from Protecting Heroes who have teamed up with the scientists from the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) Teddington to build and distribute a new safety visor, which has been described as the 'safest in the world.

The first batch of masks was sent from the NPL's Sports Pavilion which is being used as a makeshift assembly line and depot, to University College Hospital in London today.

The three Core Team creators from Protecting Heroes are:

Si Freedman

Founder at Hesed.Design. Industrial designer, Engineer, Inventor and Entrepreneur. Si won International Inventor of the Year 2011, raised 350k through Kickstarter and another £1m private equity.

He has wide ranging experience in prototyping and industrial manufacture in the UK and China, angel and crowdfunding investment, legal and corporate governance and patent and design IP.

Dean Carran

Director at JNDC. Specialist consultant in engineering design for manufacture. Experienced at designing concepts through to production. Project lead for the fulfilment taskforce.

Ben May

Director of Interactual Ltd. 25 years experience of product design, development and fulfilment. Specialises in prototyping consultancy consultancy, production implementation and 3D printing technology.

The website for Protecting Heros states:

We are currently in production of the first 20,000 protective face shields that have passed testing to BS EN 166 and are CE marked, producing 1,840 a day in the week of 11th May. Ours are amongst the most highly rated face shields in the world and frontline clinicians say they are the best and most comfortable they have ever used.
