The ice rink at Hampton Court this year set to be the biggest ever

By The Editor 2nd Dec 2020

After a heavily disrupted 2020 it is great to see the ice rink at Hampton Court Palace back in business.

This year's ice rink is set to be the biggest ever in order to make sure people are as socially distant as possible.

Workmen were busy today putting the final touches to the ice rink at Hampton Court Palace, which is due to open on Saturday (5 December)

The ice was laid yesterday and the giant marquee is now surrounded by Xmas lights. The multi-coloured lockers close to the entrance have also been built and are ready for customers.

The rink will run all the way to January 17th.

Originally the rink at King Henry VIII's former home was meant to open in November but this was delayed due to the second national lockdown.

Visitors this Sunday will be treated to a guest appearance from award-winning children's author Joanne Hutchinson, in celebration of her latest festive tale; Hettie The Talking Yeti.

Known for her bestselling books Og and Hagwitch and the Cauldron of Colour, Joanne will be signing copies of her new book from the ice rink's Covid-secure Café & Bar, whilst ice skaters will be given the chance to skate alongside the loveable Hettie from 12pm to 1pm.

The cafe, operated by local favourite Miss Polly Cafe, will be serving up hearty winter warming sharing platters, indulgent sweet and savoury treats and a wide range of festive beverages.

Tables of up to 4 or 6 and sharing platters can now be booked in advance, online.

The Ice Rink Café Bar is open 10:30-21:30 from 5 December 2020 to 17 January 2021 (excluding Christmas Day).
