The Elleray Community Association (ECA) says it needs new trustees and a new trustee secretary to help "it realise its full potential".

The association is the charity that manages the new Elleray Centre in Teddington as wella as the Elleray Social Club which is based there.

Until recently, the charity's prime role was running the weekday social club for adults. But now, it said, it is evolving into a charity with two focuses.

One focus is to ensure that its Social Club continues to meet the needs of its older residents, especially those who live alone, are socially isolated and enjoy meeting people to take part in a range of activities designed to keep them fit, healthy and, above all, entertained.

The second focus is the Elleray Centre itself.

ECA said it "intends to develop it into a thriving community centre, a venue for a variety of activities, events and talks that will appeal to a very wide cross section of the community."

It added: "To this end, we rent out our rooms for classes and courses, for meetings, for performances and for children's parties. We also hold our own fundraising events."

ECA 's trustees serve a maximum of three terms of three years, and two of its current trustees will therefore be standing down at its AGM in November.

ECA said :"This gives us an opportunity to bring in new trustees with fresh ideas and different viewpoints who can help us build the Elleray Centre into a flourishing community resource while maintaining and expanding our Social Club's charitable mission to relieve isolation and loneliness among local adult residents."

As a trustee and director, you will help shape ECA's strategy to develop the charity's work in responding to local social needs and to exploit the opportunities to establish The Elleray Centre as an important resource for the entire local community.

As well as attending ECA's two monthly Trustee Meetings, it would hope that you would play a part in one or more of its working groups dealing with such matters as fundraising, organising events, community engagement, finance and marketing.

ECA's new Trustee Secretary would carry out the usual secretarial duties.

ECA said it is "looking for people with strong strategic, organisational and administrative skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to communicate clearly and diplomatically.

\it added: "You will be reliable, discreet, comfortable handling confidential information and able to work closely with the Chair, Treasurer, trustees and staff.

"You should have experience in business or with a charity that relies on a mix of self-generated and grant funding, ideally with some insight or understanding of the role and purpose of a community centre.

"Previous experience as a trustee would, of course, be a bonus!"

Trustees are expected to contribute to one or more working groups. ECA will occasionally ask Trustees if they are able to act as volunteers to supplement staff in the case of unplanned absences.

"This should be seen as an opportunity to stay close to the delivery of our services and engage with the members of our social club," ECA said.

The time commitment is flexible and will depend on the degree and breadth of your interest in supporting ECA's charitable activities and developing The Elleray Centre's role and position in the local community.
