Teddington’s Park Lane Stables to host winter NHS engagement event
On 2 December from 2pm, Park Lane Stables in Teddington is hosting a winter NHS engagement event.
The event is for people who don't like doctors, hospitals, or clinics or those who have additional needs to meet healthcare professionals in a less daunting environment, stroke the ponies, and enjoy a cuppa and cake.
Vaccines will also be available for those eligible.
Speaking about why she chose to run the event, Park Lane Stables' founder Natalie O'rourke told Teddington Nub: "My son's got Down's syndrome and it's really, really hard to get him to have a vaccination.
"So, we're working with the NHS and we're going to have nurses here, but not in uniforms. They'll just be dressed in normal clothes, and it'll be really informal.
"People will be able to get health advice from the nurses on anything that they're worried about or that they want to talk about, but that they might not feel confident going into a doctor's surgery or hospital.
"They can get any advice that they want."
O'Rourke said that there'll also be a therapy dog at the event.
There's no need to book tickets for the event and anyone can turn up.
"Attendees may need to know their NHS numbers, but if they can't find them, a date of birth and postcode should be fine," says O'Rourke.
She said: "I'm hoping I'm hoping it'll be really good because I know with my son, it's a massive trauma trying to get him to have any sort of jab.
"So, I'm just hoping that for other families that really struggle, this might be a way of making this easier for everybody."
