Council planners have told a Teddington wine bar it cannot install new adverts on the outside of the business.

Richmond Council has refused a planning application for the signs at Primitivo Club on Broad Street.

The scheme would have seen a sign 0.4 metres high and 2.8 metres wide installed.

In its application to the local authority the business said the signs would not impact the local street scene.

"The signage is to replace an already allocated space for signage," it said.

"The proposed works are intended to return the building to pre-Barclays occupation as much as it is possible."

The application continued: "The works are not considered to have any adverse impact to the existing appearance and amenity of the application site and that of its neighbours."

However, council planners said the application lacked information and refused to grant planning permission.

"In the absence of sufficient details, such as details of how the signs are to be illuminated, the applicant has not demonstrated that the proposed signage is not likely to have a detrimental impact on the setting, character and appearance to the host building and a less than substantial harm to the appearance and character of the conservation area," a council report said.

"In addition to this, the existing drawings are inaccurate and do not reflect the current site conditions."
