Teddington Theatre Club wins big at The Swan Awards
Teddington Theatre Club has been recognised for its great shows with an impressive eight Swans.
The Swans are awards given out by Arts Richmond, recognising the best local productions annually.
The awards are decided by a panel of six judges.
TTC Artistic Director Lottie Walker spoke to us about the success at the awards.
She said: "It was fantastic the awards still went ahead.
"We had 23 nominations across seven shows, and every show we put got at least one nomination.
"We're very happy with eight wins and one play even secured three wins.
The play entitled 'Pornography' (but not about what you might expect) won the awards for best actor, best play and for design.
The awards were all virtual this year as the traditional black tie event had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.
The ceremony was held on Zoom and then broadcast on YouTube meaning that more people than ever got to see the awards.
Returning to performances is still very much up in the air and the rule of six means rehearsals are not possible.
TTC do have plans to keep entertaining despite the restrictions.
Lottie added: "We are launching a podcast in October which is very exciting.
"We will also be producing 13 nights of ghost stories in the lead-up to Halloween.
"Our members have submitted monologues about their experiences of lockdown which range from the funny to the desperately sad."
With social distancing still in place it is unclear when TTC will be able to return to the Hampton Hill Theatre.
