Teddington Swim Club master swims the English Channel

By The Editor 5th Nov 2021

A member of Teddington Swim Club swam across the English Channel earlier this month.

Donna Nicholas, who is part of the club's masters team, completed her impressive swim on August 13th with an excellent time of 13 hours 23 minutes.

Perhaps more impressive than that is the fact that Donna is a senior nurse, meaning she has obviously been very busy over the past few months.

Teddington Swim Club explained her story:

"At the start of the year Donna was on track to complete the swim in July but lockdown prevented any training and it was only when restrictions were eased that she could resume her preparation.

"She had to acclimatise herself to the conditions by dousing herself with cold water!

"Donna, who is Australian born & a resident of Twickenham, dedicated her own swim in support of the appeal by fellow endurance swimmer Andrew Butler whose own solo attempt was pulled after 16 hours."

Despite the pandemic making charity events a lot more difficult to organise, it is great to see so many still taking place.
