Richmond Council has granted permission for a storage unit in Teddington's Fullwell Road to be converted into a one-bedroom flat.

The application, which was submitted in December 2023, sought permission for the "Change of use of ancillary storage unit to rear of 139-141 Stanley Road to create a 1-bedroom flat (Class C3) with associated alterations, including installation of additional rooflights".

The site consists of an infill garage/storage unit at the rear of 139-141 Stanley Road.

The proposed dwelling would have an internal floor to ceiling height ranging from 2.67m to 2.8m which exceeds the required 2.3m.

The proposed dwelling has an approximate internal GIA of 43.77sqm, with a proposed single bedroom which has an area of 8.13sqm (including the bedroom cupboard).

The single bedroom has been amended to meet the minimum width for a single bedroom in the NDSS/London Plan. A proposed combined kitchen/dining/living area is proposed.

In an officer Report, Georgia Nicol said: "The proposed one-bedroom dwelling is an awkward layout, due to it comprising the conversion of a garage space which has been constructed as infill development built in what was historically open space.

"However, due to the type of dwelling proposed, it is considered that the design has been appropriately optimised to provide acceptable amenity for the future occupant.

"While the proposed internal courtyard space is not an ideal form of outlook or space due to its size and layout, it is considered it will provide acceptable outlook to the bedroom and delivers appropriate ventilation in this instance.

"The dwelling will have several existing and proposed rooflights that aid in providing additional light to internal spaces.

"It is noted a sunlight/daylight study was provided with the application. While this is based on the layout originally proposed by the application, the site is south facing and the front windows remain unchanged, with the report indicating the kitchen/living which utilises these windows will receive sufficient sunlight/daylight access."
