A stables in Teddington has launched a fundraiser to help save one of its therapy pony's eye.

Park Lane Stables (PLS) is raising funds for Trigger, who has been one of its ponies since 2008 and is at risk of losing his eye.

Speaking about why it launched its fundraiser, PLS said: "Trigger has been with Park Lane since 2008 and has done so much for so many.

"The most reliable therapy pony anyone could ever wish for: never puts a hoof wrong when we ask him to attend events and parades, always steady and calm with our Riding for the Disabled (RDA) participants and beloved by passers by.

"Now Trigger needs our help: He is at risk of losing his eye due to a corneal ulcer and urgently needs debridement to remove the diseased tissue by an equine ophthalmologist to save his eye.

"Every penny raised will go towards Trigger's vet bills and we will be posting regular updates on our page about his progress.

"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

Despite only launching the fundraiser on Monday (27 July), PLS has already raised £1,655 of its £3k target, donated by 57 people in three days and has created a dedicated Facebook page for the cause.

Speaking about the donations, PLS' founder, Natalie O'Rourke, told Nub News: "We're really happy that so many people have already supported this appeal so far, Trigger really does deserve it.

"He has been there from the start with me at Park Lane and in that time has helped hundreds - if not thousands - of people to learn to ride.

"He's also been the first point of contact with a horse for many more people at all the parades and community events he's attended over the years.

"Now in his old age he is still the most amazing therapy pony, he goes to hospitals and care homes, and of course he is often the cuddle horse at the stables.

"We don't want him to lose his eye as it would be hard for him to adapt and it would be a hard surgery and recovery at his age.

"We're extremely grateful for all the support so far, and I'd like to thank our vets, Shotter and Byers (especially Jess) and the specialist at Optivet."
