Teddington restaurant One One Four to close as owners ‘pursue a new concept’
One One Four, one of Teddington High Street's independent restaurants, is closing on 11 August after seven years of business.
The owners, husband and wife team Sam and Alex Berry, announced the closure on social media on Wednesday 19 June, to the dismay of many of its long-standing customers.
"So sad. It's such a special spot. Best of luck," comments one diner, while another says she is 'devastated' by the news.
The restaurant's owners said: "Our decision is rooted in a bold belief: the era of exclusive, special-occasion dining experiences has had its day.
"Now that's not to say there's no place for excellence and refinement anymore but we recognize a growing desire for something different—a space that embodies community spirit and everyday enjoyment.
"One One Four was founded on the principle of exceptional quality and unique experiences. However, as we have evolved, so too have the desires of our guests."
"We hear the call for a restaurant that feels like a second home, a place where everyone can gather regularly, not just for grand celebrations but for everyday moments."
One One Four, which achieved an impressive 4.7 out of five stars on Google Reviews, is one of many cafés and restaurants owned by Mr and Mrs Berry.
Their Kingston-based gin distillery Bone Idyll, along with a number of Surbiton eateries, have established a dedicated customer-base among locals.
The owners concluded their announcement, saying: "We are profoundly grateful for the support, loyalty, and love we have received from our customers over the years. Your encouragement has been the cornerstone of our success [...] Thank you, Teddington, for everything."
