After a remarkable 47-year stay on Broad Street, Teddington residents will bid farewell to the beloved Wimpy store this weekend with Friday 11th November confirmed as the last day of trading.

Jas Bhangal has been owner of the fast-food restaurant for the last twenty years with son Jo Bhangal running the day to day operations for the last six.

Wimpy has been a staple in Teddington since first opening its doors in 1974, serving its traditional British burger recipe and range of tasty sides to locals.

Mr Bhangal has owned several establishments in the past but admitted saying goodbye to Teddington's Wimpy will be the toughest.

Speaking to Nub News the restaurateur said: "The plan was always to retire when I turned 50 and I did in May this year, so with the lease coming to an end it's in a way overdue!

"Nevertheless, that does not make it any easier saying goodbye to Wimpy. We will miss our customers dearly, many of whom we consider more as close friends. Thank you also to our fellow traders and their staff who have made Teddington a really special place to live and work."

A farewell message from Owner Jas and Manager Jo of Teddington's Wimpy.

Residents have been reminiscing over previous visits to Teddington's Wimpy this week on social media from children's birthday parties to hungover breakfasts to an eagerly anticipated lunch time treat.

One local said: "Such sad news as the owners are wonderful people. Very friendly and such familiar faces in Teddington. Wishing them all the best, and a well-deserved rest."

Another added: "So sad that it is coming to an end, I've known it in Teddington forever and somewhere I would take my daughter for milkshakes and burgers, so sorry its closing."

A third, in a more humours take, admitted: "I was a regular in the late 80s early 90s when I lived above the butchers on the corner, I used to have a crush on the blonde waitress!"

For those wishing to get their last fix of Wimpy in Teddington before it shuts shop for good, the restaurant will be open from midday until 9pm today and tomorrow, and will close at around 6pm on Friday, 11th November.

Wimpy is a fast-food chain that was founded in the United States, the Wimpy in Leicester Square became the first store in England in 1954 and to date, there are 64 dotted across England serving a range of burgers, sides, classic breakfast and muffins, grill plates and desserts.
