Teddington: magnificent shire horses return to Bushy Park

By Ellie Brown - Local Democracy Reporter 5th Nov 2021

Magnificent and rare shire horses have returned to Bushy Park, offering historic horse-drawn carriage rides to Teddington residents for one month only.

The Royal Park's two majestic shire horses, led by traditionally dressed drivers, will be pulling a Charabanc through the park's picturesque avenues at weekends this August.

Rides last 30 minutes and start and finish at Chestnut Avenue, going between the Pheasantry Cafe and the main car park.

Tickets cost £11 and all proceeds will go towards enabling the shire horses to undertake conservation work in winter, making Bushy Park even greener.

It's also a unique chance to see a UK shire horse in action, as these animals are now rarer than pandas and on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust 'At Risk' list.
