Sports Clubs across Teddington are beginning to reopen following the lifting of government restrictions.

Teddington Lawn Tennis Club has reopened today and head coach Anthony Mills has described the strict measures that have been put in place to make sure that everything is safe.

He said: "You are allowed to play singles with someone from outside your household but doubles has to be within one household.

"Members also have to bring their own initialised tennis balls that they serve with only.

"We're also paying coaches to watch over these sessions to make sure everyone follows the new rules."

There are various other measures being put in place as outlined by the Lawn Tennis Association such as separate entrances and exits as well as booking restrictions with only members being allowed to play for an hour at a time.

The Tennis Club has also been keeping busy online over the lockdown period with a few coaches hosting Zoom lessons as well as taking part in the Roger Federer volley challenge.

The former Wimbledon winner managed 219 volleys in one minute while Teddington coach Anthony Mills smashed this record and managed 259.

Teddington Swimming Club members may not be able to get in the pool at the moment but they are finding plenty of other ways to keep active.

Head of development squad Jan Shepherd has launched a May Day Challenge on Twitter focusing on either mental or sports performance each day.

She said: "Obviously with not being able to get into the pool at the minute it is so important we engage with our swimmers.

"The feedback has been lovely and hopefully our swimmers will come back fitter than they were before.

"But we will have to adjust to the new normal when we can finally get back in the pool."

The challenge will continue as many sports clubs have to consider how they will adapt when they are finally allowed to reopen.

Currently when swimming clubs will reopen is unclear but it is unlikely to be any earlier than July.

There is also no indication of when cricket clubs will open with the ECB not permitting recreational cricket to be played.
