Scores of mourners lined the High Street in Teddington today to say farewell to David Hogg, who passed away from suspected COVID-19.

Friends from various periods in his life including many 'bikers' turned out in the bright morning sunshine near the King's Head pub to pay their respects to 61 year old David, known affectionately as 'Boss Hogg' as he was carried from his home and accompanied by his family to Kingston Crematorium.

Heads were bowed at the moment of passing and many of the mourners carried their own floral tributes.

The line of mourners adhered to the 2-metre social distance rule, imposed by the government, which has prevented the traditional gatherings at funerals.

His family plan to host a memorial for his many friends later in the year.

Rest in Peace, David.

David Charles Hogg (Funeral Service)

17th March 1959 – 4th April 2020

David was born on the 17th March 1959 to Bill and Mary Hogg in Manchester. Dad was born and brought up in Scotland, spoke with an Edinburgh accent and David quite understandably was having nothing to do with his English birthplace and for personal loyalties, stuck firmly to his Scottish inheritance!

In his early years he lived in High Lane and Disley near Stockport. Starting his education at High Lane Primary school and then moving on to Beech Hall Prep School, Macclesfield where he boarded from an early age.

After Beech Hall, he progressed on to Rossall School, near Fleetwood in Lancashire.

David fairly quickly sorted out his priorities, demoting the world of academia and promoting the world of sport and particularly team sports. He thrived on rugby in the winter and cricket in the summer becoming a key member of the school teams.

David left Rossall in 1977 having made many life-long friends and started his career in Advertising and Marketing which he was to follow for nearly 40 years. Most of this time he worked in London and the City but he did have spells based in Dublin and the far flung reaches of Swindon and Horsham!

Snow Boarding became David's winter passion after his rugby playing days finished.

Not the gentle art of two skis but the rough and tough of boarding.

David had established a wide circle of friends in the Teddington, Hampton and East Molesey areas and it was through these contacts that he met Angela.

They were married on 6th June 1998 with the reception at Hampton Court. It was a brilliant hot sunny day and a fabulous wedding. Never has David been so happy as he had been since marrying Angela.

Shortly after their wedding David developed a passion for riding out on two wheels. His interest turned to Harley Davidson bikes and their distinctive features.

I first thought that his registration number of HOG was like many others, a reflection on his name. I was put right smartish that it stood for the Harley Davidson Owners Group!

Many of you will know that David was able to change career a little over 12 months ago and spend his working days teaching his passion – Motor Biking!

He loved riding out on two wheels and having checked that Angela could keep him in the manner to which he was accustomed, took the necessary instructor courses and became a fully qualified instructor.

He had found his ideal job and was proud to be an instructor.

As a family we have retained our roots in Scotland and the last time David and I spent time together was last November in Conaglen House near Fort William.

David had developed an interest in photography and he has captured many of those wonderful Scottish scenes we witnessed. On one day during that week, we arranged to go stalking.

This involved climbing 1500 feet over rough terrain. David being the youngest in the party was by far the fittest and pushed, encouraged and cajoled us up the mountain.

It is so very hard to understand why he is not with us today, developing those plans for the future with Angela.

You can shed tears that he has gone,

Or you can smile because he has lived.

You can cry and close your mind, and turn your back

Or you can do what he'd want, smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

What a lovely kind generous guy, a loving husband to Angela, brother to me, uncle to Jamie and Gavin and great uncle to Clemmie, Tilly, Beatrice, Dougie, Genny and Charlie.
