An equestrian coach from Teddington has won a prestigious UK Coaching award in recognition of his work transforming the lives of riders at Park Lane Stables.
Peter Tomlin has been announced as the winner of the UK Coaching Change A Life Award sponsored by Sport England. The award recognises those who empower and inspire individuals through great coaching.
After being presented with his award, Peter reflected: "I'm quite stunned. I'm really grateful that all my work alongside the life-changing work of 1,700 Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) coaches across the country is worthy of this award.
"I'm very proud to inspire individuals. It's so important to tailor coaching for everyone. Finding a pathway for drivers and riders is what we're all about."
Peter has over 10 years of experience supporting young people with additional needs.
Specialising in RDA for the riding and carriage driving sessions, Peter's approach allows for greater connection and ensures every child feels part of the stables, helping participants feel confident, included, and capable.
He adapts sessions to individual goals, using practical, paper-based or community-based activities. He encourages independence by letting learners choose their objectives and keeps them informed of relevant, related information.
He thinks beyond standard safety needs, even creating a sign to reduce sensory overload for one rider. With kindness and sensitivity, Peter creates a space where challenges are respected but never limiting, allowing young people to thrive and grow.
The UK Coaching Awards is regarded as the most prestigious event within the coaching community, established to recognise the invaluable role coaches play in building a happier and healthier society.
Previous award winners include Judy Murray and Aston Moore (Lifetime Achievement award), Lionesses manager Sarina Wiegman (Great Coaching Moment of the Year), and the coaches behind Lucy Bronze and Katarina Johnson-Thompson's path to success (Coaching Chain award).

UK Coaching's CEO Mark Gannon congratulated Peter on his award, and for the profound coaching efforts that saw him honoured as part of the annual celebration.
He said: "At UK Coaching, we are so proud to be able to honour coaches like Peter with UK Coaching Awards each year.
"Peter, and all of our winners, finalists and nominees should take extreme pride in what they have achieved and been recognised for by those in their communities.
"Great coaching and coaches make such an impact on individuals' lives and within their communities, helping to keep a whole nation active.
"It is so important that we recognise and celebrate great coaching.
"It is also key we acknowledge the tireless commitment and amazing work coaches across the nation deliver to support participants in their own unique journeys.
"Peter is one of the nation's top coaches who has helped to change so many lives through his dedication."
