Teddington Cricket Club Chairman Philip Eastland has today emailed all TCC Members with thanks for their support and an update both on the new Pavilion Works as well as the much-anticipated reopening of the nets.
He wrote:"I thought it was time to write to you all to update everyone on the Pavilion and ground, and also to thank you all for the support you have given the Club, either through recently paying a subscription or making a donation, or for all the work you have done over the years to build the solid foundation that should enable TCC to ride through this hopefully unique event relatively unscathed.
"Despite the lockdown we have been able to continue to do work on the Pavilion to start to clear the remaining snagging list items, and while these may not be obviously visible there is plenty still to be done and we will still be working away for a few more months.
"The much more visible progress has been with the ground restoration work to restore the land made available by the demolition of the old clubhouse and car park. This work is now complete with the area levelled, using soil from within the Park, and the grass seed that was planted is taking hold.
"While it will still be some time before we can use it for sporting activity, it will be a good additional space for us to use.
"As I am sure you are all aware, the ECB has given permission for cricket clubs to reopen nets on a limited basis. This we are doing cautiously and carefully following all the rules that are in place, but it is our intention to provide net space to all paid members via the booking system we are setting up.
"Please be aware that space is limited, especially as we are only permitted to use 2 out of the 4 nets, so to try to increase capacity if we find we need it, we are working to add a grass wicket on the 2nd square.
"While it is all very frustrating that we are not enjoying the start of the season, whether that is Sunday morning coaching, Junior or Adult matches or sitting on the new terrace watching cricket and enjoying the company of fellow members, the support you have given the Club is much appreciated and we most certainly are cricket ready once we get the green light from the authorities.
