Teddington: Council issues statement on Ukraine crisis

By Ellie Brown - Local Democracy Reporter 26th Feb 2022

RICHMOND Council has released a statement of support for the Ukrainian people and their family and friends who live in the borough.

The Eastern European country was invaded by Russia yesterday and over 100 people have died so far in the conflict.

Councillor Gareth Roberts said today: "As more news comes from Ukraine today, my thoughts are with the Ukrainian people.

"The situation is developing quickly. I know we have many people who live or work in this borough who are incredibly concerned for friends and families in Ukraine, and I know many residents will also want to help.

"Please keep an eye on our website and social media channels in the coming days and weeks, where we will continue to share ways for residents to offer support and highlight support available for Ukranian nationals impacted by the invasion."

York House (pictured above), where the Council is based, will be lit up in blue and yellow tonight to show support.

It comes after Teddington's MP Munira Wilson urged the UK to impose the "most severe sanctions possible" against Russia.
