Teddington Budgens store closes

Teddington's Budgens store officially closed down on Wednesday (30 April) at 11pm.
The store, which sold essential goods, has been on High Street for 20 years.
Explaining the cause for closure, a note in the stores window writes:
"Dear Valued Customer,
"I hope this message finds you well. As we approach a significant milestone, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering loyalty and support over the past 20 years at Budgens, Teddington.
"Your patronage has been the cornerstone of our success, and it has been a true pleasure serving you.
"It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that Budgens, Teddington will cease trading on April 30th, 2025.
"This decision has not come lightly and is due to a combination of factors, including increasing operational costs, changes in consumer shopping habits and the ongoing challenges within the retail sector.
"I want to assure you that this decision was made after careful consideration, and it reflects our commitment to providing the best for our customers. We will continue to serve you with the same dedication and quality until our final day of trading.
"Thank you once again for being a part of our journey. We will cherish the memories and connections made over the years. Should you have any questions or wish to share your thoughts, please feel free to reach out."
There is also a 'Notice for Repossession' by South East Enforcement stuck in the window, notifying that the site's landlord is "entitled to repossess and has now exercised their right under law".

On its last day, "as a token of appreciation", Budgens offered "special" discounts on selected items of up to 30%.
The discounted items included Soft Drinks, Confectionaries, Crisps and Snacks, Grocery – Edible and Non-Food, Personal Care, Frozen Food, and Non-food Retail.

A local resident, who visited the site earlier today to grab a free paper and who was unaware of the closure, said: "Wow, that was very sudden. I only wanted my free paper, what a shame."
Budgens has recently opened a store in nearby Kingston.
