Teddington is in the borough which now has the highest covid-19 infection rates in London.

Richmond upon Thames had an average of 295 cases per 100,000 people as of 24 September 2021.

However, its figures are much lower than the highest UK area, Kettering, which has a rate of 1,010.7 - one in hundred.

Teddington's covid infection rates as of 25 September were roughly in keeping with the borough average.

The areas of Teddington North and Hampton Wick & Teddington East had figures of 290.8 and 280.3 respectively.

Teddington Central, an area which mainly includes the high street and Bushy Park roads, recorded 11 cases - a rate of 151.8.

All of London boroughs are currently still below England's average infection rate of 330.

But over the last two weeks, Richmond has seen an increase in cases with 98 recorded on September 29, taking the total to 19,034 since the pandemic started.

Deaths in the borough have stayed lower than they were at the peak with none recorded on September 29, leaving the total since the pandemic began at 296.

A spokesperson from Richmond Council said: "There is no specific reason or event that we can identify as the reason the numbers have increased."

Cllr Gareth Roberts, leader of Richmond Council, said: "It is of course concerning that the numbers of Covid-19 cases in Richmond are high, with residents still needing hospital care.

"It is a sobering reminder that the virus has not gone away, and people need to continue to take measures to keep themselves safe and those around them.

"However, whilst Richmond levels are high – they are considerably lower than the UK rate."

He added: "We would therefore ask local people – whilst we are all so desperate to move on from the pandemic, as we head into winter it is so essential that we protect ourselves, the NHS and local businesses by remembering hands, face, space and ventilate.

"Also – please have the vaccine and remember to self-isolate if you are displaying symptoms and take a test."
