Lewis' Without Good Reason, which will be published on 19 August, follows a retired psychiatrist Corine Alexander, who is struggling with the loss of her own child when she is asked to investigate why fourteen-year-old Mae Bailey attacked her own mother, unearthing a web of secrets and lies.

With 'whydunnit' elements, Without Good Reason keeps readers hooked with its unique twist to the domestic suspense genre, with the narrative focusing on Corine discovering the motivations behind teenager Mae's violent actions.

As Corine and Mae reach the breaking point where their attempts to suppress distressing thoughts have twisted and shrunken their worlds, the truth must ultimately surface.

Inspired by a surreal trip to rural Scotland post COVID, author Lewis began imagining the eerie setting for this emotional novel.

Covering deep psychological themes, moral dilemmas, and family dynamics, this novel is ideal for book clubs, sparking discussions on motherhood, trauma, grief, and redemption.

Perfect for fans of The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides and Liane Moriarty's domestic suspense novels, Without Good Reason is the perfect women's fiction thriller read this summer.

Speaking about her novel, Lewis said: "Following a trip to Scotland's North Coast 500 route in a campervan immediately after lockdown in 2020, I started to wonder who lived in these isolated areas, houses, and small crofts that we passed, and why might someone like me, someone who had lived and worked for most of their adult life in and around a bustling city, end up here?

"I wanted to explore someone caught in a downward spiral of grief, when hope is gone, and no one seems likely to or capable of understanding how they feel, as well as how being childless impacted Corine day-to-day life, in the passing remarks and insensitive comments people made around her.

"I've always been intrigued by secrets and the impact maintaining them has. It's easy to judge people on the basis of first impressions or what you see on the surface, without knowing what drives them."
