Sunrise reflections captured in Bushy Park ( Photo by Sue Lindenberg)
Teddington Nub News would love to hear from any budding poets out there who have found inspiration from the local scenery, the stunning wildlife and gardens in Bushy Park or the seasonal skies or views of the river from the towpath.
Surprisingly, there are not many poetic tributes to this particular area but here is one we discovered by Declan White, which may, hopefully, inspire others. We will publish all of them to share amongst our growing family of followers.
Bushy Park Pond, a Poem by Declan White
Sitting by the large pond
Spread out before me wide and long like open arms,Breezes playing along the surface,
Tickling the water into sprinkling light. Proud swans in royal procession,Bossy darlings as befits their necks,
Tetchily policing all the smaller birds,Who float and bob like happy little unsinkable corks,
Buoyant as paper sailboats. And the ducks causing a stir with each other,Like too many cooks in a kitchen,
Flapping and splashing at each other,Taking flight in little cliques,
From one part of the pond to the other,Grandly landing with their webbed feet
Sliding with a big swish on the water,Before they come to a stop.
The swans retired, now, to a small grassy edge,
To doze standing up with their headsSnugly tucked into the feather bed of their backs,
Others grooming themselves. Just another day on the pond, with a bit of sunshine.
Oh, one duck suddenly likes the sound of its voice,
Very impressed with itself.Just a flash in the pan,
Pond life comfortably resumes,Each small sound joining up with every other sound,
A busy community.
