Substation fire in Teddington causes power cuts

An explosion at Teddington's Crief Court yesterday (Wednesday, 25 February), which destroyed a nearby substation by fire, caused power cuts to homes and business nearby.
Two fire engines and ten firefighters arrived at the scene at 11.19am and the incident was under control by 12.43pm.
Local residents reported hearing a "loud bang" and seeing lots of smoke".
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade )LFB) told Nub News: "Two fire engines and around ten firefighters were called to reports of an explosion on Crieff Court in Teddington at 1119 yesterday.
"Part of an electrical substation was destroyed by fire. The incident was under control by 1243."
A spokesperson for UK Power Networks added: "UK Power Networks attended the Wick Road area of Teddington yesterday at 11:16am after equipment faulted at a local substation.
"Power was interrupted to several thousand customers, with the majority being restored within six minutes.
"The remaining customers were fully restored at 12:26.
"We apologise for the inconvenience."
