The Red Arrows and their French counterparts Patrouille de France were clearly visible in bright blue and cloudless skies in a spectacular flypast over Teddington at 5pm this afternoon.

The 18 jets made a perfect formation as they headed towards London and Buckingham Palace where President Macron was due to meet The Prince of Wales after a visit to Downing Street.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "The Red Arrows and their French counterparts, La Patrouille de France, will fly over London tomorrow to mark 80 years since Charles De Gaulle's historic speech to Occupied France.

"President Macron's visit marks an important anniversary for our closest European ally."

A spokesperson for Patrouille de France said: "Proud to be flying alongside with the Red Arrows on this very special day.

"80 years ago, General de Gaulle launched his appeal to the French on the BBC from London, marking the beginning of Free France."
