Teddington Riverside Jazz Festival to take place this weekend

Teddington Riverside Jazz Festival is taking place this Sunday (22 June), bringing a stellar line-up packed with established jazz artists and emerging talent to The Lensbury Club's lawns.
Supported by a grant from the PRS Early Career Promoter Fund, festival founder, jazz fan and Teddington resident Ken Richman has carefully curated a line-up of artists who are sure to serve up a broad array of sweet jazz, blues and summer grooves.
Headlining the festival is a two-time BBC Jazz Awards winner, the singer and pianist Liane Carroll, with her "rare ability to meld effortless, often transcendent vocal and piano technique with heart stopping emotion and soul bearing power", says Peter Quinn in Jazzwise Magazine.
For Ken Richman, she was an obvious choice. He said: "Asking Liane Carroll to play was a no-brainer for me. My wife Judith and I have been fans of hers since we met her many years ago, when she was teaching at a jazz summer school."

Carroll will be joined on stage by her husband and bassist Roger Carey, and drummer Dave Ohm.
The line-up also has range of other unmissable artists from blues guitarist Chris Corcoran to fast rising pianist Emily Tran, who will appear with her trio.
With an upcoming set at Love Supreme and a background with the influential jazz development programme Tomorrow's Warriors, Tran certainly is one to watch.

Alongside playing his set, Chris Corcoran will be sharing tips and tricks from his many years of experience through a blues guitar workshop.
He will be delivering this as part of the festival's commitment to raising money for Off The Record, the Twickenham-based charity dedicated to offering counselling to young people with mental health issues.

Moreover, some serious grooves will be served by Funk Affinity, a band led by bassist Dave Jones. Guesting on vocals is Sandra-Mae Lux, who also doubles on tenor sax.

Elsewhere on the line-up, London jazz collective Way Out West will appear in a six-piece format, featuring the addition of Nette Robinson on vocals and sax. Led by Tony Woods, the augmented quintet will be providing powerful straight-ahead sax-led swing.
Local rare groove-meisters FunkYard 7 will kick things off in fine style at 2pm, setting the bar high for the live music, which will run across two stages until 8pm.

With every artist bringing something tantalising and distinct to the day, the Teddington Riverside Jazz Festival is not to be missed for fans of the music from London and beyond.
